Photograph by @paulnicklen // A newborn harp seal pup waits patiently for its mother to return from the sea so it can nurse on her rich milk. Harp seals give birth to their pups on the sea ice in late February to early March. With human induced climate change and the loss of sea ice, harp seals are losing their birthing grounds. In 2007, more than 70% of the pups died due to poor ice conditions. In 2010, almost none survived. As I type this, baby harp seals are struggling to survive yet another terrible ice year near the Magdalen Islands. If we want to save baby harp seals, then we need to alter our carbon emitting ways. I start to see hope when two leaders like Canada's @justinpjtrudeau and @Barack Obama discuss solutions to this global crisis that affects us all.
