Our #WomenOnMoney display opens Friday. This English half pound coin includes a portrait of Elizabeth I, from around 1567–1570. Powerful women, like Pharaoh Cleopatra VII, Queen Elizabeth I, and Empress Maria Theresa, each issued coins with their portraits, helping them assert their influence over nations and empires.
