Growing up I always struggled with my body image. Yes, the way that I look has changed, but the real transformation has been within. No matter what I look like at that moment, I've learned to love and accept myself regardless.
When I was young, my dad used to wake me up at 5:00am and run around the block with me. Sometimes we would only get down the street to the first stop sign, which was probably 1/8th of a mile. But it wasn't the distance that we ran that mattered, it was the motivation he instilled in me that still continues to drive me. The fact that from an early age I've viewed exercise as a form of stress relief and a foundation to build a support system and community. A community of like minded people who want to change for the better and do right by themselves. Not just for themselves but for those they love and the legacy they intend to leave behind.
I look at these pictures and I feel emotional because I remember that time in my life and how low I felt. But it's also a reminder of how far I've come. A reminder of the battle that I'm fighting against each day for a better me. A happier me.
