Photo by @macstonephoto: One of the most exhilarating experiences I've had in the Everglades, was wading into this mud pit containing over one hundred alligators. The reason was to make a photo that showed the relationship between reptile and the seasonality of water in the Everglades. Alligators gather in the last remaining water holes in the central Everglades during the height of the dry season. Also known as gator holes, alligators have excavated these areas, physically altering the landscape around them to survive, waiting for water to return.
