A boy shakes the hand of Pope Francis as he greets migrants and refugees at the Moria refugee camp near the port of Mytilene, on the Greek island of Lesbos.

Pope Francis will be flying back to Rome with 12 Syrian refugees. The Vatican said Francis wanted to “make a gesture of welcome” to these vulnerable migrants. The three families, including six children, had been in camps on the Lesbos since before the E.U. – Turkey deal took effect.
