On a ski trip a couple of days ago, we got a big surprise when we rounded a bend in the ski tracks. In the middle of the trail stood a capercaillie in playing posture, ready to fight the intruder entering his self-proclaimed territory. With lowered head and trailing wings he was running towards us. An adult capercaillie can weigh up to 6 kilograms and knows how to gain respect. It could be a painful experience for his opponent to be hit by his wing edges, so we did not hesitate to surrender, and the proud victor stood in the middle of the tracks again, ready to confront the next one to pass...
