A week from today marks the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, the world’s worst nuclear disaster to date. As the world remembers the accident, my decades of work documenting the aftermath (both the trilingual book and English-language iPad app “The Long Shadow of Chernobyl”) have received renewed interest. Although some of the coverage was seen widely, the image above of me as I prepared to enter the destroyed reactor for even 15 minutes shows the precautions that still must be taken today before venturing into the belly of the beast.
