#OnThisDay in 1903, Club Atlético de Madrid was founded as Athletic Club de Madrid by three Basque students living in Madrid, as a branch of their childhood team, Athletic Bilbao. In 1904, they were joined by dissident members of Real Madrid. They began playing in blue and white, but on 22 January 1911, the Madrilenians played their first match in their famous colours: red and white striped shirts and blue shorts.
