I've been putting off saying this for a long time but I finally give in. I'm tired of this negativity around who's from where and how people shouldn't come here. PORTLAND IS A COOL PLACE. We have an amazing food and beer scene, the accessibility of the city is top notch, you can be at the mountain or the coast in a hour, the city is full of life, energy, bars, parks, neighborhoods, music venues and more. People are going to move to Portland whether we want them to or not. Instead of posting so much negative noise around the subject we should embrace the fact that people actually want to move here, that alone is flattering. I understand how rent prices are going up (I live downtown, for all you people who think I'm a big fake), I understand the problems we have with homelessness and drug abuse (every city does), I get that houses are selling in 2 days way over asking price. I see and hear more about the "real city" in 1 day than probably most of you in a month. I get it. I get it all. But this is the city I love, the city I'm proud of, and I'm perfectly fine sharing it. It's a BEAUTIFUL place, and we're incredibly lucky to call it home, but it will change. Buildings will get taller. Companies will relocate here. Tourism will increase. But so what? Those are all amazing things for the economy which will offset all the negative stuff you always love posting on my page. I started @portlandgear as a way to show my love for this city, and share it with the thousands of people who want to do the same. Stop telling me I can't do that. If you don't like my page, don't like what Portland is becoming, I recommend unfollowing and writing your mayor a letter. Stop creating instawars with people, it does no good. I'm going to continue to post beautiful photos of this city and share it with the world and if you don't want to share in that with me, it's only your loss. ?
