Scientists, explorers and inventors at the turn of the 20th century began using scientific glassware made from something called borosilicate. A material that can be manipulated on a gas stove at home. Chemists in particular would setup vast laboratories of glassware.

Flask is inspired by the sharp and functional geometry of chemical laboratory glassware.
