Photo by @Gerd Ludwig. Following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986, Pripyat’s 50,000 inhabitants were evacuated along with residents of the other towns in the Zone. More than three decades after the evacuation, nature dismantles the abandoned city. A musty book is covered in plaster dripping from a leaky ceiling, and trees grow on schoolroom floors. The radiation has rendered the area unfit for human habitation for generations to come.
