Commuting on two wheels today for #BikeToWorkDay? Watch out for scorchers during crush hour! ?? This bicycle bell is from around 1900. As more cyclists took to urban streets already crowded with streetcars, horse-drawn vehicles, and pedestrians, cities passed ordinances requiring cyclists to stay off sidewalks, keep to a speed limit, and use bells to signal their approach. Scorchers, or super fast and reckless riders, were considered a danger, especially during the busy commuting times that we now call "rush hour." #ObjectProject #NationalBikeMonth
