O italiano Césare Decarli praticava o remo e em sua terra natal e quando chegou em Paulo Afonso e viu a natureza exuberante do local reuniu os amigos e construíram o Caranca boat, versão nordestina do milenar dragon boat. O italiano para retribuir a receptividade brasileira é voluntário em projetos sociais que incentivam a prática do Remo na região e que já participa de diversos campeonatos com os alunos.

Hoje, para celebrar esta história, foi escolhido para acender a Pira Olímpica.

// The Italian Césare Decarli participated in rowing in his homeland and when he arrived in Paulo Afonso he saw the lush nature of the area, met some friends and built the Caranca boat, a Northeastern version of the ancient dragon boat. To repay the Brazilians who have welcomed him in the area, he volunteers in social projects that encourage the practice of rowing in the region and he has participated in many championships with his students.

Today, to celebrate his work, he was chosen to light the Olympic cauldron.
