My brother and I have been registering voters across California for weeks. Yesterday, when going to vote in the primary with our friends, our buddy was not on the list. Odd. Then it became clear why.
This photo was taken yesterday, 6/7. The registrar recorder at the poll site was printed on 5/3/2016, as you can see in the photo- this meant anyone who registered after 5/3 was not on the list, and was forced to take a provisional ballot. Despite calling the county registrar and being put on hold for two hours, an accurate and updated list of registered voters was not sent to this poll site. The provisonal votes of my friends and neighbors will go mostly unheard, in an election cycle wherein decisions and stories are made and disseminated in a matter minutes, not days or weeks. We, the citizenry, agreed to certain rules, and in the case of this polling site (and many others), our government and infrastructure did not live up to their end of the bargain.
I'm a proud Californian. I live in one of the most beautiful, advanced states in the world. How is it that a "mistake" like this is tolerated? Inexcusable. Examine and fix our broken voting system. Of anywhere on Earth, we have the technology and money to do so.
Politics aside, we need better infrastructure and organization during our elections if we want to ensure consensus. Otherwise, you're ensuring an angry mob.
