The submission to the Magnum Square Print Sale from Peter Marlow – who died earlier this year – comes chosen by his wife, who supplied this accompanying text: “A family holiday taken on a whim. Montana, 2000. Peter had been there the previous year. 2000 was the year of the great fires and though the Big Sky was, to us, crystal clear, locals said it was ‘muggy’. The image is our son Max, an urban boy brought up in central London. It was the first day he had been flown, driven, flown, driven for 20 hours. We arrived at a hotel on Swiftcurrent Lake, we bought him a trapper hat and let him go. The hat does not fit him now, although I wear it all the time.” — Fiona Naylor, wife of Peter Marlow
