What We're Seeing: Engineering the World - Ove Arup and the Philosophy of Total Design

Tomorrow sees the opening of the V&A’s latest exhibition in their Engineering Season – the first major retrospective of Ove Arup (1895-1988), recognised as the most influential engineer of the twentieth century.

Arup is recognised for his philosophy of ‘total design’ – an ideological and professional synthesis between architect and designer – which the exhibition explores through previously unseen archival materials, prototypes and digital animations. It covers Arup’s projects on all scales – from the Sydney Opera House for which he is perhaps best known, to the Penguin Pool he designed for London Zoo.
