The primary barrier separating ocean to land on this slim stretch of coastline is the sand dunes. In recent decades the communities and natural habitat of the #outerbanks have been feeling the affects of #ClimateChange heavily. The hurricane season continues to come earlier and lasts later with each passing year. Additionally weather has become increasingly more unpredictable. The damage is taking its toll in the natural world in bird and turtle nesting areas, and in local communities with continual and forecasted property damage estimated in the billions leaving a lot of question marks for the future of the #OBX.
