Original wind rush, the Jamaican born,Ex RAF War Veteran, Became the only Black Mayor in 83 when he was elected Mayor of Southwark. He was one of the Co founders of the Notting Hill Carnival. Like my grandfather, Sam & many other people from the Caribbean served this country during the 2nd World War.
I never got to meet Sam but read & heard lots about him. A true role model. You can find a plaque dedicate to him in Herne Hill. Portrait by Brian Usher. #ripsamking "
