Just outside of my hometown, this is what I see: the dipping birds of Lost Hills, CA. These oil rigs have been around as long as I can remember. One caught fire once and burned for over a year. I always knew I was home when I was coming up the 5 from LA and I'd see that fire whirl whipping skywards. Turn left, home in an hour.
I try not to drive too much now that I know more about conserving crude oil and the like, but I love those memories of when fire was shooting out of the ground like some burning passion was busting through wanting to touch us all.
