Members of the Masai tribe harvest Artemisia on the side of a hill in Engaloni outside Arusha, Tanzania. A plant that originated in China, leaves of the artemisia bush are a natural cure for malaria, a crop many farmers in East Africa are switching to helping prevent one of the greatest killed on earth ~ malaria.

I photographed these graceful members of the Masai one early morning for the @ナショナルジオグラフィック story #bedlamintheblood. For a National Geographic story, we look for moments highlight cures, hope and the importance of African's helping African's. Pleased this beautiful moment of basking light from high in the mountains outside of Arusha made it into the magazine.
