Independence Day: (Of course, I have an Anna-Diatribe)

I was INDEPENDENT as a toddler, off in the corner playing with toys by myself.
I was financially INDEPENDENT at 15, on my on in Miami and NYC working/studying to be an actress.
I've always been INDEPENDENT in my love relationships, at first, from fear of intimacy; now, with loving, self-respect.
I was "INDEPENDENT" in isolation after I was raped, believing my silence made me tough.
I am now INDEPENDENT of the chains which kept my mind locked in fear of what would become my own INDEPENDENCE DAY.
My chains are gone. I've been set free. Today, on this National Day of Independence, I celebrate the birth of a nation and I celebrate with survivors, now independent of slavery both physical and mental.
Happy Birthday, America, may you one day be truly Independent of YOUR chains -the ones that define success in a not-so-successful way. "Some people are so POOR, all they have is MONEY."
