I started recording my new album yesterday - which turned out to be one of the darkest days in America since I've been alive. Land of the free. Home of the Brave. I didn't feel free. And I didn't feel brave. And I definitely didn't feel glad to call myself an American. It felt like a terrible and gross thing to associate myself with. It's not supposed to be like this. I felt sad. I felt angry. I felt fear. All I could keep whispering throughout the day and into the night was, "Jesus have mercy." I thought of His heart and how He sees things. I thought of His desire to return for us and all sorrow and pain to cease. Jesus is our eternity - where we'll be joined with our savior who died for our sins, our humanity, and our brokenness. He knew this season would come and I think it has made Him heartbroken that it's here upon us now. He is compassionate. We're in a desperate time. We need Him. We need His mercy. We need His help. And we need His eyes. We need to be like Him- kind, forgiving, compassionate. Oh God forgive us and heal our land. Here's the bridge of a new song on my album and it's my prayer today.
