As a city and a country, we need to invest in resources in lower income communities (and particularly poor black ones where resources are disproportionately lacking even compared to in poor white communities). Police should not be the first line of defense against drug problems (it should be rehab programs), homelessness (by providing resources to help people get back and stay on their feet), mental illness (there should be programs that allow people to seek treatment/help regardless of their income levels), and other issues that are being dealt with by police. Over a third of people killed by the LAPD last year were mentally ill. @blmlosangeles
