It took more than one R2-D2 unit to make a single scene in #StarWars. Several R2-D2 units, specialized according to function and edited into a final composite, were used for making a scene. "Star Wars" actor Kenny Baker sat in this "costume shell" and manipulated the droid movements as R2-D2.
The costume isn't on display right now, but it will always be an important part of our national collection.

Baker died today at age 81. He will be missed.
