to my hawaiian ohana: put the pressure on @dolphin_quest and @sealifepark to end this nauseating cruelty. repost: @nataliekparra september 1st marks the first day of the dolphin slaughters in Taiji, Japan. For months, everyday fishermen will search for dolphins and when they find them bang long metal poles under the water to frighten and herd them into the infamous Cove. The "prettiest" ones will be purchased for hundreds of thousands of dollars by dolphinariums and Swim With Dolphin facilities all over the world. The rest will be considered "pests" and slaughtered. Their mercury-toxic meat mislabeled and sold around Japan as expensive whale meat to unknowing buyers.
On Oahu we have two swim with dolphin facilities, both still guilty of their affiliation with these fisheries. The co-founder of @dolphin_quest used to act as a middle man for these fishermen and his dolphinarium owning worldwide clients. @sealifepark has purchased false killer whales from Taiji in the past, all are now dead, and last year purchased and illegally moved the "last surviving cetacean from a Japanese drive fishery," Kina the false killed whale, behind the scenes of their dolphinarium in a small tub with no shade and no stimuli.
The boats left for their second trip out about an hour ago in Taiji. And even though most of you are thousands of miles away from Japan you can still help!
