Speaking this morning at @deepakchopra's #sagesandscientists conference on climate change & art/culture. Why? 1. While economic and electoral power may be unevenly distributed, cultural capital exists almost everywhere. If we care about a theory of change that is inclusive, then we care about encouraging people to think like artists, and we care about recognizing the power of creative solutions. When it comes to addressing climate change -- that will effect all people everywhere, and requires all of us to innovate a way forward -- brilliant powerful leadership not only can but must come from everywhere, our survival depends on it.
2. In my own work, when i have thought to myself, you’re an artist, it has been powerfully liberating as to what I can do with what I have access too.
I am an artist because I don’t think about the rules in my industry which generally expects that women be pretty faces and not political voices. Instead, I think about what are the most powerful expressive ways I can do something.
