Photograph by @thomaspeschak I had been watching these fur seals for years and wanted to photograph them surfing from a unique underwater perspective for my 2015 @natgeo magazine story on southern Africa's oceans. However when the waves were really big and the seals were surfing almost constantly, it was crazy wild and too dangerous to get into the water. When it was safe the seals weren’t surfing or the water was too murky. Then finally came the perfect day. There was no wind, the ocean was glassy smooth and perfectly sized sets of large waves rolled in and most importantly the seals were surfing en masse. #surfing #seals #southafrica @animal_ocean @thephotosociety @natgeocreative Follow me @thomaspeschak for more unusual views from the underwater realm.
