Remembering artist, critic, and educator #HassanSharif, who passed away Sunday at the age of 65. Born in Dubai in 1951, Sharif was a pioneer of Conceptual art in the United Arab Emirates, working in performance, installation, drawing, and assemblage. In 1980 he became founder and member of the Emirates Fine Art Society, and together with four other artists in 2007 established The Flying House, a Dubai-based collective aimed at promoting contemporary art practice from the Emirates. Through his artworks, teaching, and mentorships, Sharif left an indelible mark on subsequent generations of artists, and we are proud to have two of his works in our collection.
