I am passionate about ending the death penalty and last night I had the honor of joining @richardbranson @aloeblacc @ウィル・アイ・アム Will.i.am and @butterscotchmusic at an event in support of #Proposition62, which if passed would put an end to capitol punishment in California. I was inspired by meeting three exonerees; Paris Powell, Randy Steidl and Shujee Graham, who were each found innocent after previously being sentenced to death. The most inspiring thing about meeting all three men was how positive they were, and how none of them seemed to hold any bitterness in their hearts, after having fought for their lives for decades.
The top ten nations in the world who still practice capitol punishment (in terms of numbers of people executed per year) are;
1. China
2. United States
3. Pakistan
4. Iran
5. North Korea
6. Saudi Arabia
7. Yemen
8. Indonesia
9. Bangladesh
10. Iraq
No European Nations practice the death penalty. California has the most death row inmates of any state. If we can succeed in getting California to end the death penalty it can send a ripple across all other states who still practice capitol punishment, and if the US Supreme Court bans the death penalty it will put pressure one the United Nations to put a stop to this practice world wide.
