The death toll in Haiti has surged to more than 400 after Hurricane Matthew hit the Carribean island earlier this week.

Homes throughout the area were piles of rubble with the roofs mangled or stripped away. As Haitians mourned their losses, they tried to recover what they could of their possessions.
