This migratory worker and his family were spotted by photographer Carl Mydans in Raymondville, Texas. Called "bush hogs," migratory workers often lacked homes, voting privileges, and union representation. It was estimated that there were over 3 million in the 1930s.
These laborers traveled from place to place, harvesting crops that needed to be picked as soon as they ripened, hoping to earn enough money to get by.
