Flashback Friday! Sooooooo my first time visiting LA in 1996 the first place I went to was the Beverly Center mall. Within minutes I was approached by Dominique Trennier (RIP brother) and he said "hey- do you wanna be in a D'Angelo video tomorrow?" Being a skeptical east coast'er I thought it was some BS! But Dom was the real deal and 12 hours later I was on the set of my very first music video working the longest day I'd ever worked (19 hours!) it was a great experience tho! Videos were much different then- they used fashion & catalog models and the budgets were HUGE back then- you were referred to as a "leading lady" "hero" or "lead" as opposed to some of the derogatory terms they try to label women who choose to work on videos. They were beautiful and had a story and we looked up to these women like "wow look at how beautiful!" I remember feeling that way when I first saw Garcelle Beauvais in the R Kelly Down Low video. Anyway- this was my first video and because I got booked within an hour of landing in Los Angeles I knew then that I wanted to move here and try to get into the business. These were exciting times because it was the beginning of a new direction in my life and this was RIGHT after I won my crown in the Miss Rhode Island pageant and was gearing up for Miss USA (hence why I was so damn skinny!) anyway- just wanted to share the story! #MyFirstVideo #NoWeDidntReallyKiss #ThisWasBeforeHwGotAllRipped #NoIStillDanceHorribly #RhythmlyChallenged #OnAnEightCount #MeAndThoseDreaminEyes #DAngelo #VideoGirl #LeadingLady #Work #ThrowBack #1996
