My dance idol Cyd Charisse. I have her black pointe shoes, shown here, plus a few things from her wardrobe including a beaded Bob Mackie gown, one of her 1950s era coats and a vintage fox stole. I've had an obsession with ballet pointe shoes since I was a little girl. I always remember my first pair and how it felt to finally learn to dance in them. While some of the other girls in class were in suffering, I was loving it...like I always say, when you're living the dream you don't feel the pain! My very first #burlesque shows were all danced en pointe, and I have a box filled with pointe shoes in every color of the rainbow from canary yellow to Tiffany blue, from emerald green to magenta, many of them covered in Swarovski crystals, my custom made @クリスチャンルブタン red-soled pointe shoes. I was never a very great dancer, but I think that my childhood obsession and love for the beauty and glamour of ballet somehow made it possible for me to become my own kind of ballerina. Sometimes our shortcomings actually make it possible for us to blaze our own distinctive paths in life, and sometimes we get what we want, but in a different way than what we expected.
