The oil refineries (seen here), car emissions and other particulate pollutants collect low in the bowl shaped valley during the temperature inversions that make SLC one of the worst cities in the world for air quality. It is considered especially dangerous, as the tiny pollutants can lodge deep in lung tissue. ~
