SOME BOOKS I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT❗️❗️❗️
❣️ @Grace Bonney's IN THE COMPANY OF WOMEN features photos & interviews with 100+ brilliant people about workspace and creativity and I am getting ASMR buzzies over how much you can learn from people with totally different lines of work and methods than you. If this book weren't so pretty I would be annotating it like MAD, MAD I say ?? (and that's me with short hair on the right ?)
❣️ Remember the episode of @broadcity where they sell @abbijacobson's drawings of what she imagines to be different celebrities' favorite foods? And Bruce Springsteen's is a tomato because "that's a marriage that works"? CARRY THIS BOOK is 133 pages of that genius considering what diff icons (Andy Warhol, Michael Jordan, Robert Durst, et al) carry in their bags. Her illustrations make me realize that happiness is, in fact, simple - look at a colorful book that speaks to your exact, highly specific interests!!! She's posting lil previews on her instagram but you must experience the detail and care of Carry This Book in the book-flesh ✨?✨
❣️ @rotterandfriends has drawn most of the t-shirts I wear and albums I listen to and now she wrote and illustrated a basically CHEKHOVIAN story of boredom and loneliness experienced by all species that I relate to and adore! I also want posters of every page!
❣️ YOU CAN'T TOUCH MY HAIR by @dopequeenpheebs (one half of @2dopequeens) is ridiculously funny and insightful, my fave new motto being "be XX chromosome AF" and my fave chapter being the satire of casting breakdowns for actors of color ("MUST be capable of speaking in broken English," AND MORE!). Adding this to my personal feminist book-of-essays canon and betting anyone who does the same will be way grateful!
❣️ No one captures the #millennial #struggle between #sincerity and #cynicism, a desire to #love and a desire for #likes, quite like my favorite informal therapist @adamjk. Filling out this cute/funny/self-help-but-actually-helpful book has become one of my favorite solo activities and I am getting it for everyone this holiday season. I #ship you and PICK ME UP.
