HT: Aston Villa 0-0 Blackburn Rovers - Despite enjoying the lion’s share of early possession, Villa were unable to break down Blackburn's stubborn first-half resistance at Villa Park. The first save, in fact, was made by Pierluigi Gollini who did well to push aside Sam Gallagher’s far post header – and the keeper was again in action five minutes later when he tipped over Ben Marshall’s dipping free-kick from just outside the penalty area. In between times, Jonathan Kodjia produced the home side’s first shot on target, cutting in from the left to unleash a fierce right-foot drive which stung Jason Steele’s palms as the keeper pushed it out. There was another close call on 33 minutes, James Chester getting in the way of a goalbound drive from Blackburn skipper Jason Lowe, but a couple of minutes later Kodjia volleyed over from Albert Adomah’s left-wing corner.
