Woke up this morning and didn't get out of bed. I laid there until I could find the light in this situation, knowing dark must be present in order to shine light. I thought about how grateful I am to be raised by parents who taught me to love regardless of where you were born, what you believe, or who you worship. I am thankful that our Constitution ensures that our voices will still be heard... that the checks and balances of our democratic government will protect us. I will stay steadfast to trust that God chooses our leaders and uses them for His purposes regardless of their motives. I will not forget that there have been female candidates who have made huge strides to give us hope for the future of women in politics. This election saw the appointing of the United States’ first Latina senator, first female Indian-American Congresswoman, first female Vietnamese-American Congresswoman, and first Somali-American Muslim woman legislator. According to The Center for American Women and Politics, the number of women of color serving in the Senate has QUADRUPLED..to four. These millennial women won key races and will bring more diversity and gender balance to state legislatures. Mai fam, this shows prayers from our foremothers are being answered. With each day moving forward, we must not let the political differences existing in our world detract from the unconditional love we need most now. We got work to do.
