Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky’s ‘The Coast at Yalta’, dating from 1851, is one of the earliest #Crimean views by the #artist ever to appear at auction. Although a number of other views of the town exist, depictions from the eastern side are rare. The hilltop church of St John Chrystostom, pictured in the distance, served as a navigation aid for sailors. The work will be offered in our forthcoming Russian Pictures sale in #London on 29 November. #SothebysRussia #seascape
