Social Media silence. Yeah, needed a week to get my brain around what Trump Nation actually means. Some are elated. Some are terrified. No one can deny that this country is permanently changed. Yes, it was tough to see a woman as extraordinarily accomplished as Hillary Clinton reduced to a caricature of criminality over an email server. Only last December she was declared by Gallup to be the Most Admired Woman in America -- for the 20th time and the 14th year in a row! What a difference a scorched earth campaign makes. Yes, it's hard as a progressive to accept that the Supreme Court will lean steeply conservative for the next generation. But that's politics. We have to see what Trump actually does but there is no erasing the xenophobia, Islamophobia, racism and misogyny of his rhetoric. He normalized hate-speak and legitimized a white supremacist movement that had been relegated to the shadows for decades. There cannot simply be a "reset" on this. His choice of Steve Bannon as "Chief Strategist" is deeply disturbing and should have us all on high alert. For the least qualified President-elect in U.S. history, who surrounds him will define the direction we take as a nation. All signs indicate some dark years ahead.
