Happy Monday!!! Remember every Sunday (in this case Monday) I am donating my social media to my @YearsofLiving team so they can share their personal stories about how carbon pricing can and will solve climate change! This week's post is from Chandler Green, one of our student campaigners. "My climate story began three years ago when I traveled to Iceland to film a documentary with a friend for an undergraduate research project. We were most excited about seeing one of Iceland’s largest glaciers (the country is known as the Land of Fire and Ice after all). However, when our bus dropped us off at the location, we saw no ice... A local informed us that we were not lost; the vast, rocky landscape surrounding us was where the ice used to be. As it turned out, we had unknowingly stepped into one of the most visual impacts of climate change: rapidly melting glaciers. That shocking sight in Iceland forever changed my narrative. It inspired me to learn more about climate change and to use my passions for science and communication to connect scientists and society. From writing about vulnerable habitats in Arizona’s Sky Islands to filming the impacts of the 2015 October floods in my home state of South Carolina, I’ve documented and conveyed some of the countless ways climate change is impacting our country right now. Our carbon emissions are creating a vicious cycle: one that disrupts the climate system, and in turn, disrupts our health, our economy and our ecosystems. Although this is certainly disheartening to realize, I do not think we are helpless victims destined for doom. I believe that we all have the power to change our story. As the generation most affected by climate change, young people understand that we must solve the injustice in this current cycle. We are the innovators, creators and change-makers who will use our unique strengths to stop fossil fuel companies from disrupting our climate without charge. This is the story of our future, not theirs. I am working to #PutAPriceOnIt because I believe that young people are – and will continue to be – the heroes of climate action."
