Strange, here I am , a Tamil woman in Hong Kong writing this on a day when we remember our tamil fighters who fought for our freedom from an oppressive Buddhist government in Sri Lanka who were funded by China in the last days of war in 2009.
Since I've been here , I hear the concerns from people in HK regarding main land China , but all I can think is that hopefully this moment is a moment of change for everyone including the Chinese government and my people . I can't come here and shout about how China is blocking the UN investigations on SL war crimes , the fact it doesn't recognise human rights violation in Sri Lanka etc etc. Many factors made that possible at the time but with the death of my people in SL , China solidified the port , one pearl in a string of ports around the Asian continent.
Human rights violation has to be addressed by China in Sri Lanka since there has been a change in "government". A small victory for the small people in this department will make a huge difference for China's public image not just in the west but the world and will set an example for all the small island countries that are its neighbours.

Innovative peaceful leadership is a must for an inspiring super power that can take us into the next 50 - 100 years and don't forget the Rajapaksha government as long as they are not held accountable will always be a stain on China's page as history begins to write China's story.
Like its belief , buddhism deriving from Hinduism , new China will arrive somewhere from old China. With its ability to be modern , its presence diverse globally , its ancient roots, the scale and population, it's going to take time for it to consider all aspects "forward" and I'm here to trade thoughts , represent the existence of the minority voice and the unresolved issues of the tamil people .
I hope HK becomes that part of the brain and mouth that China much needs because they both can contribute to defining the new . For that HK needs the room to breath.
