From a beautiful sunrise in Standing Rock a few days before the blizzard rolled in, with sunshine gleaming off the light frost.

Those opposed to The Oceti Sakowin Camp thought that protectors would give up or run away from the harshness of winter, not realizing that our people have survived on these lands thousands of years before colonialism and industrialization.

The biggest threat to our water and land protectors is not the weather, the most menacing force comes from our brothers and sisters on the other side of the barricade who are out of touch with the sacredness of life.
Even when water cannons were shot into a crowd of unarmed peaceful protectors, including elders, in sub-freezing temperatures, we stood our ground in defense of Mother Earth and all her children including the loved ones of those doing the shooting.

Our resilience is not seasonal, our convictions are not ephemeral, we are 24/7, year round warriors of social and environmental justice. We are reclaiming the power that colonialism drained and exploited from our ancestors.
