Last week, the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ columnist @104bx asked the artist Jane Dickson (@janeinpeepland) to tell him the story behind the work. “All my work is about things that freak me out,” Jane said. “And crowds really freak me out,” she said. One New Year’s Eve in the 1980s, @janeinpeepland was pregnant and cooped up in her loft in Times Square. Against advice — and maybe common sense — she went out to photograph the revelers. 3 decades later, those photos inspired the mosaics adorning the walls of the underground walkway that connects the Port Authority to Times Square. The work, which was commissioned by @mtaartsdesign, was unveiled in 2008. Since then, the motionless party people been photographed by countless passersby, New Yorkers and tourists alike.
