At KURA CHIKA YOSHIDA Omotesando, we carry photo books selected by the book shop "POST" who has reputation with their unique taste in selection.
Among the selections, today we would like to introduce "The Americans" by Robert Frank.
He is a photographer born in Switzerland andtraveled to the United States.
He won the scholarship of the Guggenheim Foundation and ran about all across United States between 1955〜1956 with his camera and a brand new film,
The many photos he took during this trip describes America at that time, and also at the same time forecasts the country's future steps.
More than 80 photos are put 1 photo per 1 page, and all of the captions are on the very back of the book so the readers could use their imagination freely.
The Intoduction is written by Jack Kerouac and this is because Frank himself offered to Kerouac by showing his works on the sidewalk one night when a party was held.

クラチカ ヨシダ 表参道では、独自の選書が注目を集めるブックショップPOSTがセレクトした写真集を展開しています。
本日はその中から、ロバート・フランクの「The Americans」をご紹介いたします。
スイスに生まれ、アメリカへと渡った写真家のロバート・フランク。
彼は、カメラ機材と真新しいフィルムを携え、グッゲンハイム財団の奨学金を受けて1955年～56年にかけてアメリカ中を駆け巡りました。
この撮影紀行から持ち帰った写真の数々は当時のアメリカを忠実に描写し、その後辿ることになる道を暗示しています。
80枚以上の写真は1ページに1枚ずつ配され、キャプションに関する情報は巻末に記載されており、写真集を見る人がイメージを自由に膨らませることが出来るようになっています。
作家のジャック・ケルアックが書き下ろした序文は、ある夜に行われたパーティ会場の外の歩道で、フランクが自分の作品を見せながら本人に依頼したものです。
