Green iguana (Iguana iguana) in non-conformist orange sun attire. 'Iguana' derives from a Spanish form of the Taíno (original people throughout much of the Caribbean) name for the species, 'iwana.' The iguana is an invasive species here in Puerto Rico and known colloquially as 'Gallina de palo.' In 2012, the Puerto Rican government proposed that the islands' iguanas, said to number 4 million, be eradicated and sold for meat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #DoradoBeach
