Sitting here, Saturday morning, December 31, contemplating the road behind and the road ahead. 2016 was the year I moved in with my girlfriend, I strengthened my friendships, I bought and moved into a new house, and I made a movie, or most of one. For me, this was a year of beginnings, a year of growth, and a year of investments in the future, which meant there were few days off and few moments of leisure. 2016 brought out a lot of aspects of society that were troubling. There is a lot of hate and anger and bigotry in this world, even more than most of us suspected was there. It is usually driven by fear and insecurity and lack of knowledge of self. I hope that seeing it come to the surface and truly facing it is good for our world in the long run. I feel as if my calling in the world is bringing people together through stories, not politics (which is why I am fairly quiet on the subject here), but I am hopeful for a future where the color of one's skin, or one's sexual preference, or whether one loves Marvel or DC, is less important than whether one is a good, kind person. As I look out the window now, a white mist is flowing over the mountains and towards my house, about to wash over us as I sit here with Jenn, my two dogs, and my cat. It feels cleansing, somehow, preparing us for the year to come. Better? Who knows. But stronger, and richer, and more loving - yes, definitely. I love all you guys. And I hope each of you has a wonderful 2017, where you find something stronger and richer within yourselves, and in your relationships. Be kind to one another. Even Rooker. Happy New Year, James
