For this #TigersFanFridays, meet Erik and Berkley Shotwell, of Grand Rapids, MI. A “lifelong fan” of the Tigers, Erik still holds on to his very first game ticket stub from a 1987 game against the Red Sox when he was seven years old. Erik attended the game with his late father – the only game that they attended together – and still remembers all of the details of that game. When Erik began dating his wife, Berkley, he wasted little time teaching her about baseball and the Tigers. He took Berkley to her first Tigers game in April of 2011, and it wasn’t long before she was sharing the same love of the Tigers with Erik. About a year later, the pair got engaged. Berkley surprised Erik by scheduling engagement pictures at Comerica Park, where she says Erik and the photographer kept forgetting about the pictures while they looked around and chatted. When the couple moved in together, Erik made sure the TV had every channel on which the Tigers would be broadcast so he wouldn’t miss a game. Whether he and Berkley watch one of their three or four games a season at Comerica Park, or he has to record the game and watch it after work, Erik always watches the Tigers. “Sometimes I think he really believes they can hear him yelling and cheering through our TV,” Berkley joked. “I'm pretty sure our neighbors think that Erik may be part of the Tigers coaching staff with how much he talks to the games. He's very passionate!”
