In honor of #MLKDAY we're looking back to #MonetaSleet's 1965 photograph which was featured in our 2014 exhibition "Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties." In it, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, lead participants at the end of the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery March to protest police brutality and to demand federal legislation to enforce voting rights. The 1965 Voting Rights Act was signed into law four and a half months later.
