Everyone prepares for the inauguration in their own way. President-elect Donald Trump is writing his address. Protesters are painting their signs. And DCMJ, a D.C.-based marijuana advocacy group, is rolling joints. Activists have so far rolled more than 5,500 that will be handed out before Trump gives his speech. After catching word of the operation, TIME assigned the photographer @lexey to document the preparations. There, she saw several volunteers using the magazines while rolling “to keep the cannabis off the tablecloth,” according to a cofounder of DCMJ, who said TIME was used after learning a photographer on assignment for us would show up. Other newspapers and magazines have previously been used when the group has been photographed by media.
