I think the shack created an image of God that no other creative project has shown before. I found myself in Mac's story and it broke me down with him. I literally hurt with him, but I then I also connected with him when he had his breakthrough moments. The power of this story is that It doesn't preach anything or come at the viewer with self righteous undertones. It's not edutainment. It just simply reveals the nature of God's willingness to go after one man that he is fond of through a beautifully rendered depiction of grace. People are going to go on a powerful healing journey because this movie confronts the deepest struggles with gloves off over human suffering, but somehow the story answers the pain with love. I think the world that has been bombarded with a religious, traditional picture of God and it is about to go through therapy over his image through this entertainment package.
